July Meeting Update

on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 00:23

For those who were unable to attend last weeks regular meeting of the Bexar/San Antonio Libertarian Political Party, you missed a most interesting discussion.

Our guest speaker, Nancy Torres, gave an accounting of her experiences as an Registered Nurse in the hospitals and prisons of this area. Her first hand  experiences as a psychological nurse was a fascinating narrative of the corruption that power encourages.  She recounted instances of mis management,  fraud and even abuse of police power.  Her observation was that drug use and addiction were health problems not being solved under the present "War on Drugs." Her presentation certainly stimulated interesting conservations afterwards. If you missed the get together, now being held at the Lion and Rose, mark your calendar for the third Tuesday of the month and join us next time.

Become a Candidate

on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 14:18

The Libertarian Party of Bexar County is looking for candidates that are interested in running for office. You can view the available positions LP Texas website and find out more information on the Texas state website. If you are not sure about running you can read more about becoming a candidate and what type of people we are looking for on the ballot on the 'Become a Candidate' page. If you have any interest or questions at all then please contact Laura Valle at She and the other members will assist you in knowing what you will need to do.

Texas is the leading state in filling up the ballot with Libertarian candidates, but to continue this success we need people like you, who are willing to run. Becoming a candidate isn't about desire for power of position or not even about struggling tirelessly to change the system. It is simply about normal citizens like you standing up for the great Libertarian principles that you know are worthy. The good ideas are there, but now is the time to represent them by putting your name on the ballot.

Almost every office up on the ballot without a libertarian representative only supports the status quo choices. It is submission to the status quo. We must make sure people have a choice. This great but simple gesture shows that things do not have to be what they have always been. It means people can choose differently and that power can be put back where it belongs. It is the greatest way of letting people know that 'the lesser of two evils' is no longer acceptable.

Join us today. No more evil, just freedom.

And that is what independence is all about...

on Mon, 07/04/2011 - 04:10

I want to thank Karen Grady for being an awesome host at the Independence Day eve party.  We had a great turnout and everyone had a great time discussing what it means to celebrate liberty.  It was an evening that truly shows what it means to celebrate the holiday.  We hope everyone has a great day with their families on this 4th of July and takes time to remember all the great things liberty gives us.

May our celebrations come with the joy of knowing what it means to be free and with the remembrance of the great responsibility we have in keeping that freedom.  Thanks again everyone for the great evening and have a great holiday!
